Every Man Should Carry a Knife

Every man should carry a knife. We've all heard this statement before. But what knifle should a man carry or better yet what kind of knife.
This all depends on what you will be doing. If you are hunting or camping then a good stout fixed blade knife should be affixed to your belt. But as day to day activities go a man just needs a knife that can be carried in his pocket with comfort. It needs to be able to handle daily task such as trimming loose treads, peeling an apple or cutting twine or rope. This knife needs to be of good quality, size and be sharp.  Not drawing unwanted attention from the public when it is drawn from your pocket and used is why these knives are the best choice for a man to carry one.

The Friction Folder or Jack Knife.

This is an all round goto for a gentlemans knife. These were the knives our grandfathers and dads carried.  These knives are simple in design and function. The blade is pulled open and pushed closed. A friction folder is held open from well, friction. There are no locking mechanisms. So caution needs to be used while in use. They are made from high carbon and stainless steel with handles made from bone or wood. They are classic and are always in style.

The Locking Pocket Knife.

The locking knife does just that. Once opened a lever must be depressed to close it. This makes thrm much safer to use. These knives have been called tactical for no other reason than to sell more of them from what I can tell. Most come with a pocket clip as to prevent them from flopping around in your pocket and ease of access. Some are made of exotic materials such as titanium, G-10, carbon fiber and S30V. This can result in a lighter and stronger knife. When choosing a locking knife do not select overly large or wild designs as this will draw unwanted attention.

A good pocket knife can set you back from $25-$600 plus for custom made knife.Which ever one you choose always ensure it is cleaned, lightly oiled and sharpened regularly. Do this and your pocket knife should last you a life time and possibly your grandchildrens too.
